Open Joint Cladding Requires a UV Stablized Moisture Barrier
Open joint cladding buildings can be strikingly beautiful, but they require suitable stabilization against damaging UV rays in order to reliably protect the building against moisture damage. If the water-resistive barrier is not durable in extreme weather or stable when exposed to prolonged periods of UV light, the system will fail.
How UV Rays Affect Moisture Membranes
Ordinary building envelope membranes are composed of synthetic polymers that are not stabilized for permanent UV exposure.
UV rays affect the stability of the membrane’s polymeric molecules. The solar radiation causes polymer degradation, attacking the bonds in the molecular chain, forming free radicals. This causes discoloration, cracking, and eventually, complete degradation.
A Water-resistive Barrier with Long-term UV Protection
DELTA®-FASSADE S is the water-resistive barrier solution for open joint cladding. The watertight membrane is highly vapor permeable and extremely tear resistant. Highly stabilized against damage from UV exposure, the barrier is designed for use in cladding systems that have open joints of up to 2 inches wide which expose up to 40% of the entire facade surface.
Acting as a durable drainage plane, DELTA®-FASSADE S channels bulk liquid from wind-driven rain and snow to the outside of the structure. Moreover, its high vapor permeability allows moisture within the cavity to escape swiftly via diffusion. The watertight membrane helps protect the building enclosure from the possible damage of moisture infiltration.
Light-weight and tear-resistant, installation is fast, easy, and reliable. This technologically advanced membrane withstands the rigors of jobsites, as well as tough wind and weather. The matte black of the barrier not only prevents blinding during installation, but also acts as a blank canvas allowing the open cladding architecture to shine.
